Our story
Ioanna Apartments is a small family business, created with love and attention to detail. Apartments took their name of the owner who is Ioanna. Ioanna was born and lived in the old house where Ioanna Apartments were built in 2023. The old stoned house had a beautiful arch and this was the inspiration of the arch in the main entrance. Ioanna, Kostas (her husband) and Maria (daughter) run the mini market Ariadni (Diligers) which is located just 3 minutes by foot from the apartment. Behind the mini market is where they keep their horses and have their large vegetable patch and are growing all sorts of vegetables. Maria and Olga, their two daughters, look after their property and overseeing the housekeeper.

Our goal is to make every guest feel at home and experience the genuine Cretan hospitality we grew up with. We live nearby and are always happy to help with anything you might need — from local tips and restaurant recommendations to travel ideas for exploring the island. Location
Ioanna apartments are located in the quaint settlement of Minothiana nestled within the charming Kolymbari area of Chania, on the beautiful island of Crete. Located in the southern part of the island, Minothiana boasts a stunning coastal setting, with the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea lapping at its shores. At an altitude of just 10 meters, Minothiana is a small but enchanting village that exudes traditional Greek charm. Minothiana village is easily accessible and provides a perfect base for exploring the surrounding area as it is conveniently located near other popular destinations in the Chania region of Crete. The warm Mediterranean climate makes it the perfect destination for a relaxing holiday, with plenty of sunshine and gentle sea breezes.
Ioanna apartments are located on the main road, which makes it particularly convenient for those traveling without a car, as buses frequently pass by with routes to Chania and other areas. While the yard is not ideal for spending long hours due to the traffic, this location ensures easy travel and direct access to the entire region. Within a short walking distance from Ioanna Apartments, you will find a long stretch of pebble beach, allowing you to enjoy the sea without the need of a car. The sea is usually rough as the beach is exposed to the north from where it is usually windy. When calm, though, you can enjoy its fine grey pebbles or do water sports. Same as the rest of the region, the beach is a breeding area for the endangered caretta caretta sea turtles, so it is possible that you will see cages that have been constructed and put around the turtle nests to protect them.
Just a short distance away (about 10min by foot) is the village of Kolymvari (or Kolymbari) which is a fishing village on the western end of the Gulf of Chania. There is a sandy organized beach where you can just forget all your troubles under one of the umbrellas that you can find here. Kolymvari is popular for its traditional taverns where you can taste fresh fish along with many local delicacies. Also don’t miss taking a walk around the alleys of the village and then relaxing while having a coffee or a drink by the port.
If you drive further after Kolymvari you will enter Rodopou Peninsula which is listed as a Natura 2000 protected area and can give you a good taste of the spectacular Cretan wild scenery. At the fringe of the village there is the Orthodox Academy of Crete and the historical monastery of Gonia that was built in the 17th century and has a precious collection of rare icons.
The Ioanna Apartments is an excellent base for exploring Western Crete. Western beaches of Falassarna (30 min by car) and Elafonisi (1 h by car) are a must and they are easily accessible from this area, as well as Gramvousa Island and the Balos lagoon, which can be visited by boat from Kissamos port. Balos lagoon is also accessible by car (around 25 min) but the road is not so good therefore a big car is needed. This makes Minothiana a perfect spot for those looking to explore the many wonders of Crete.
The bustling city of Chania Old Town is just 26 min by car from Minothiana. Its picturesque streets and port are lined with traditional buildings, adorned with colorful. Also, the airport of Chania is 44 km away (45 min by car). Alternatively, the capital city of Heraklion is 163 km away, with a driving time of 2 hours and 12 minutes.
